J & R Auto Inc. : Founders
In August of 2005, 2 men with over 30 years of combined experience founded J & R Auto Inc. These 2 men, Raul Joya and his son-in-law, Jose Martinez both exerted excitement and motivation to begin this new endeavor.
Raul had been a supervisor at a Ford assembly plant in Mexico City for 24 years, and continued in the automotive industry when he moved the the United States, working for a mechanic shop in Elgin, IL for an additional 16 years. He became well known in the area due to his kind nature and outstanding professionalism. Jose also has a background in mechanics, once having owned and operated a mechanic shop in Mexico City.
Raul and Jose partnered up in 2005 and decided to use their knowledge and experience to open up a shop that could convey their ideals. They firmly believed that outstanding and personal customer care as well as honest and knowledgeable service with a commitment to excellence were key components for success.
J & R Auto Inc. : A Family Affair
The love for the automotive industry definitely runs in the family. Two of Jose’s sons (Jose Luis and Angel). Angel, (our youngest technician) graduated from Elgin Community College’s automotive program and recently became an ASE Master Certified Technician. Jose Luis also attended ECC and is now focusing on an Auto Body Business Operations degree from Waubonsee Community College.
In addition to having Jose’s sons on staff, his brother, Raphael, an auto mechanic technician, joined the team as well. Raul and Jose knew that they really had something special. They both feel that it is a privilege to work on what you love, in a great community and have your family work alongside you..
J & R Auto quickly became the place to go for auto repair in the Elgin area, their fair prices, courteous and knowledgeable staff and their costumer first focus was unrivaled.

Although Raul passed away in 2013, his legacy still lives on, not only through the knowledge that was passed on to his grandchildren, but by the memories shared by the people who had the honor to meet him. The shop’s ongoing commitment to provide the best service available in Elgin and neighboring suburbs will surely continue to honor his achievements.
